Setup, step by step

PUTTING IT ONYOUR TABLET

Ten minutes, once. After this it lives on your home screen like any other app, opens full screen with your branding, and works even when the gym wifi doesn't.

Before you start, you need two things: your ConsultKit link, and the tablet or phone you take into consults.

Your link is the one you generated on the setup page — the long web address starting https://consultkit.co/assessment.html#config= and then a lot of letters and numbers. That jumble is your business name, your colours and your rates, which is why it's so long. It's meant to look like that.

Don't have it? Go back to the setup page, fill the form in again and press Generate. Nothing is stored on our side, so re-doing it is the way to get it back.

Step one — get the link onto the device

You almost certainly set ConsultKit up on a computer. The link is on that computer, and it needs to be on your tablet. Pick whichever is easiest:

EMAIL IT TO YOURSELF

The way most people do it
  1. On your computer, open the link popup on the setup page and press Email to myself. Your mail program opens with the link already in it.
  2. Send it to your own address.
  3. On the tablet, open that email and tap the link. It opens in your browser. Leave it open — you need it there for step two.
On an iPhone or iPad: the link must open in Safari. If tapping it opens Chrome or a browser inside your email app, see the troubleshooting section at the bottom — this is the single most common thing that goes wrong.

TEXT IT TO YOURSELF

Quicker if your phone and computer aren't connected
  1. Copy the link on your computer (the Copy link button).
  2. Send yourself a text message and paste it in.
  3. Open the message on your tablet or phone and tap the link.

AIRDROP

Mac to iPhone or iPad only
  1. Open your link in Safari on the Mac.
  2. Press the Share button, choose AirDrop, pick your tablet.
  3. Accept it on the tablet. It opens straight into Safari.

Step two — add it to the home screen

Find your device below and follow it exactly. The wording on the buttons changes slightly between versions, so if you see something close but not identical, that's the one.

IPHONE & IPAD

Must be done in Safari — it will not work in Chrome
  1. With your ConsultKit link open in Safari, find the Share button. It's a square with an arrow pointing up out of it. On an iPhone it's at the bottom of the screen, in the middle. On an iPad it's at the top, near the address bar.
  2. Tap it. A panel slides up with a row of apps along the top and a list of options below.
  3. Scroll down that list. It's longer than it looks. You're looking for Add to Home Screen, next to a small square-with-a-plus icon. It is usually about two-thirds of the way down, below things like Add Bookmark and Find on Page.
  4. Tap Add to Home Screen. A small window appears showing an icon and a name.
  5. The name will be your business name. You can shorten it here if you like — long names get cut off under the icon. Something like your first name or gym name works well.
  6. Tap Add, top right. The window closes and the icon appears on your home screen.
Can't find "Add to Home Screen"? You're almost certainly not in Safari. Copy the address, open the Safari app directly, paste it into the address bar, press Go, and start again from step one.

ANDROID PHONES & TABLETS

Chrome, Samsung Internet, Firefox — all work
  1. With your ConsultKit link open, tap the menu button. In Chrome it's three vertical dots, top right. In Samsung Internet it's three horizontal lines, bottom right.
  2. Look for Install app, Add to Home screen, or Add page to → Home screen. Any of those is the right one — the wording depends on your version.
  3. Tap it. A box appears asking what to call it.
  4. Shorten the name if you want to, then tap Add or Install.
  5. If your phone asks whether to add it automatically or drag it yourself, choose Add automatically.
Chrome sometimes offers it for you. A small bar may slide up from the bottom saying "Add ConsultKit to Home screen". Tapping that does the same job in one step.

WINDOWS, MAC & CHROMEBOOK

Useful if you run consults at a desk
  1. Open your link in Chrome or Edge.
  2. Look at the right-hand end of the address bar for a small install icon — a screen with a downward arrow, or a plus inside a circle.
  3. Click it, then click Install.
  4. It opens in its own window with no tabs or address bar, and appears in your Start menu, Dock or app list.

Step three — open it once while you have wifi

Do not skip this. Tap your new icon once while you're still on wifi and let the page finish loading. That copies everything onto the device.

From then on it works with no internet at all. That matters more than it sounds — gym wifi is famously terrible, and the last thing you want is a spinning wheel while someone sits waiting.

The only part that still needs a connection is the Send to my inbox button. Printing, the plan, all the calculations — those work offline.

Check it worked

Tap the icon on your home screen. You should see:

  1. No address bar and no browser tabs. It fills the whole screen like a proper app. If you can still see the address bar, it didn't install properly — go back to step two.
  2. Your business name at the top, in your colours.
  3. Your session prices when you reach the end of the assessment. Run through it once with made-up numbers to be sure.
Seeing "Your Fitness Business" instead of your name? The link got cut short somewhere — usually when it was pasted into something that shortens long addresses. Delete the icon, go back to the setup page, generate a fresh link and use the Email to myself button rather than copying and pasting by hand.

When something goes wrong

What you're seeingWhat to do
No "Add to Home Screen" option on iPhone or iPadYou're not in Safari. Copy the address, open the Safari app itself, paste it in, and try again. Chrome on iPhone cannot do this.
The icon opens a browser with an address barIt was saved as an ordinary bookmark. Delete it and repeat step two, making sure you tap Add to Home Screen and not Add Bookmark.
It shows "Your Fitness Business" and default pricesThe link was truncated. Generate a fresh one and email it to yourself rather than copying by hand.
Blank or white screenYou're offline and it was never opened on wifi. Connect to wifi, tap the icon, wait for it to load fully, then it will work offline from then on.
Your logo is missingThe logo address needs to start with https:// and be a picture that's already online. If it starts with http:// the device blocks it. Re-do setup with the corrected address.
It looks fine on the computer but wrong on the tabletYou're probably opening an older link. Delete the icon and add the newest one again.
Everything's right but the icon picture is genericNormal if you didn't set a logo. Add a logo address on the setup page and generate a new link if you want your own icon.

Changing your rates later

Your rates live inside the link, so changing them means making a new one. It takes about a minute:

1. Go to the setup page and fill it in again with the new numbers.
2. Generate, and email the new link to yourself.
3. On the tablet, add the new one to your home screen.
4. Delete the old icon — press and hold it, then choose Remove or Delete.

Do the same any time you change your colours, your business name, or what's included.

Still stuck? Reply to any email I've sent you and tell me what device you're on and what you're seeing. It comes straight to me and I'd rather sort it out than have you give up on it.
